Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus Review

Being on a diet usually means cutting back on foods and drinks that can make you gain weight, and beer is usually at the top of that list.

Most diets discourage drinking if weight loss is your goal, but there are going to be times when you feel like indulging in a beer or two, and on diets like the South Beach Diet or keto, for example, it can be OK to drink on occasion.

We all have lives to live, football games to watch, and parties to go to, so if you happen to live in the real world, you may want to know which beers or types of alcohol you can drink, without completely derailing your weight loss.

Meet Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus: A low-carb beer, that is also very low in calories.

In the this Michelob ULTRAL Lime Cactus review, we’ll tell you all the key details about this beer, including how it tastes, the key nutrition facts, and how much it costs, so you can decide if this is the right diet beer for you!

With that said, this review is only for folks who are at least 21 years old or over – if you younger than that you shouldn’t be drinking alcohol, so wait to try a Lime Cactus until you’re legally old enough to do so!

If you are old enough to drink alcohol legally, always remember to do so responsibly, and never drink and drive!

Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus: Does it Taste Good?

The first thing you probably want to know is whether or not Lime Cactus is any good. Now, the first thing I will tell you is that this beer isn’t for everyone.

If you prefer an IPA over a Bud Light, there’s a pretty good chance you’re not going to be down with some Lime Cactus action, and you may want to consider a different low-carb alcohol option.

That said, when you’re on a diet you’re going to have to make sacrifices, so you may have to adjust your beer preference a bit if you want to lose weight.

For those of you who don’t mind a light beer, prefer a lime in your Corona, and want a low-carb brew, you will probably enjoy a Lime Cactus.

I personally found it to be delicious and refreshing. It has a nice lime taste, but it isn’t overpowering. Because it’s a light beer, I also didn’t feely overly full or gassy after drinking one.

It was a nice way to end my day as I cooked dinner, tasted great, and I didn’t feel guilty after drinking it, as I knew I wasn’t loading up on carbs or calories.

So how many carbs are in a Lime Cactus?

Let’s dive in and find out…

Lime Cactus Nutrition Facts

michelob ultra nutrition facts

In typical Michelob ULTRA fashion, a bottle of Lime Cactus is low in both calories and carbs, so you can enjoy one guilt-free. Here are the key nutrition facts, for those who are keeping tabs on their daily net carbs and/or calories:

  • Calories: 95
  • Carbs: 5.5

As you can see, those numbers aren’t too shabby! The net carbs are even low enough, that you could enjoy a Lime Cactus on the keto diet, assuming you’ve kept your carb count down for the day.

As you can see, if you had two Lime Cactus’, though, you could quickly be over your net carb limit for the day, assuming you’ve been eating too.

That said, these are great calorie and carb numbers for us beer drinkers, so this makes a great diet beer option if you’re wanting to lose or maintain your weight.

the ingredient label

Lime Cactus is brewed using the following ingredients:

  • Two-Row and Specialty Malts
  • Natural Grains
  • Choice Hops
  • Natural Flavors, Including: Lime Cactus, Tuscan Orange Grapefruit, Pomegranate Raspberry

Alcohol Content

Again, if you’re looking for a big, heavy brew, like an IPA or something else that is high on taste and alcohol, Lime Cactus probably won’t be your jam.

The alcohol content of Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus is 4% by volume, putting it as a decent option in the lite beer world.

To put it in context, Bud Light has 4.2% alcohol by volume, so it’s pretty comparable in terms of alcohol content.

Is it Gluten Free?

Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus is not gluten free, but ULTRA did offer a gluten-free option at one point. It’s Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, which is a naturally flute-free cider made from apples. I haven’t seen it on the shelves in a long time, however, so you may want to check to see if it’s available in your area.

Lime Cactus vs Bud Light Lime

Bud Light Lime is the king when it comes to lime-flavored light beers, but how does Lime Cactus compare?

In my personal opinion, Bud Light lime gets the edge when it comes to overall flavor. I’ll take BL Lime all day when just considering which one I think tastes better.

BL Limes have a true lime flavor, and while the Lime Cactus does too, it also has hint of the other fruits that are mentioned in the ingredients above.

That said, Cactus Lime gets the edge when it comes to total calories and carbs. If you’re trying to lose weight, this definitely matters.

Even so, Bud Light Lime still only has 6.6 grams of carbs, and 110 calories, which is just a tiny bit more than Lime Cactus. So if you’re just planning on having one beer, and prefer BL Lime over Lime Cactus, then I’d say go for the Bud Light.

How Much Does it Cost?

In most cases, you should get Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus for around $6.49 to $9.00 per six pack, depending on where you live.

12 packs usually cost somewhere around $15.

How Many Can You Drink if You’re on a Diet?

If you’re trying to lose weight, then I would recommend limiting yourself to 1 to 2 Lime Cactus beers. Having one beer is the safe bet, and won’t through off your daily calories or net carb count too much.

If you have a party to attend, want to cut loose at a BBQ, or just want to tip a couple back while you’re watching the big game, then you may be able to get away with two, but if you’re following a low-carb or ketogenic diet, you’ll be pushing up your carb count, so take that into consideration.

Either way, I’ve always found it best to keep myself to a two drink minimum, and then I avoid doing anything I might regret the next day, plus, it’s just healthier for you.

Final Thoughts

Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus is a great tasting beer, that is a great option for anyone looking to tip one or two back, without torpedoing their diet.

With just 95 total calories, and 5.5 carbs, it’s a great diet beer option, and the perfect choice for those looking for a flavored beer option.
